One card from the pew, three follow-ups by noon

A concept build for a fictional church in Wheaton. One connect card, followed from the pew to a neighbor’s hello on Tuesday.

A pastor speaking to a small congregation seated in rows in a plain church hall

Before: three days in a basket

Sunday’s cards waited for Wednesday’s typing night, and new families heard nothing all week.

Now: before lunch

Every family is on file with a person ready to reach out.

Sounds like a good greeter

A first-time family meets Dawnbrook on a Saturday night. Each part of the page does what a good greeter would.

The front porch

Plan your visit and the phone number wait in the top bar on every page.

The first hello

Service times, one plain sentence about who we are and one next step.

Directions, not a brochure

Gatherings, kids, groups and care, each in a line a newcomer can act on.

Voices from the pews

Members on being known and remembered, the question every visitor carries in.

Times and towns at the bottom

Service times, kids check-in and the towns served, one scroll down.

What Sundays look like

  • Sunday gatheringsTwo morning services, with coffee before and after
  • Kids and studentsSafe, simple check-in from nursery through high school
  • Small groupsLiving rooms across the western suburbs, most weeknights
  • Care and prayerA quiet word to us stays quiet, and never gets lost
  • Somebody two streets over texted us by Tuesday. A neighbor
    Simone V., Wheaton
  • One line about my dad. Only Pastor Dave ever knew
    Gordon L., Glen Ellyn
  • Serving here never feels like being drafted

The page gets a family to the door; what happens underneath makes sure they are remembered.

What happens after the last song

It reads handwritten connect cards and suggests a group for each newcomer, and a leader approves every introduction before anyone is contacted.

Handwriting in, a family on file

The Reyes family fills in a connect card in the pew, and after the last song the office photographs the whole stack. Each card is read, messy handwriting and all, into one record per family.

One card became three follow-ups: a greeter brief, a care note and a group introduction.

A word marked private stays private

The Reyes card carries one line on the back, marked private. It reaches the pastor alone, with a date to follow up, and nobody else on staff ever sees it.

He called on Thursday. That is what the quiet lane is for.

The roster mends itself, gently

That afternoon a preschool volunteer bows out of next Sunday, when the Reyes family comes back. Dawnbrook asks the most rested volunteer first, and only as many people as it needs.

One ask, one yes, and the coordinator never sent a text.

Staff meeting starts with every name filed

Care follow-ups sit in a tab only pastoral staff can open. The Reyes introduction is drafted for a group leader two streets over and goes out only when that leader taps send.

On Tuesday the Reyes family hears from a neighbor, not a form email.
